Tenth Day: Falafel Gyros and (Crunchy) Spinach Rice Pilaf

September 11, 2012
If you're mad at Dad it means you have some internal conflict to work out within yourself.

No one is perfect, so getting angry with him is inevitable, but every time I'm angry at him I'm really angry at myself. At least, I'm frustrated with myself for giving in to some character flaw or sin like impatience, disorganization, or selfishness.

Ann and John came for dinner tonight! They were super sweet and brought me tomatoes from a local farm. I made it a Greek night. It was a success minus me finishing the food an hour after they arrived.

Recipe #6: Falafel Gyros~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rating: Delicious!
Comments: I liked making the balls of falafel. It was like making cookies. Ann helped with this step!

Falafel dough. It's 95% mashed chickpeas.

My gyro before I added the lettuce. Notice the chopped tomatoes, courtesy Ann and John.

 Recipe #7: Tahini Sauce~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rating: Wonderfully zesty!
Comments: I thought the sauce was very potent, but apparently it was good and well-liked by my guests.
Falafel balls in the middle; tahini sauce on the left; Ann's gyro at the top left.
Recipe #8: Spinach and Rice Pilaf~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rating: Mmmmmm!
Comments: I like the dill. The rice took a long time to cook because it was not completely submerged in water. That's why the adjective crunchy is parenthetical. It wasn't supposed to be crunchy, but it was already past eight o'clock and we still hadn't tried it, so we just ate it a bit al dente. Overall it was easy to make because it only has a few ingredients and the process isn't complex. Plus, there's only one pot to clean up when you're done!

My spinach and rice pilaf in the serving bowl. My phone camera takes
 blurry pictures, but the food looked like green, mashed gruel anyway.
